The Administrator serves as liaison between the Board of Selectmen and various public and private agencies, businesses, and the citizens of the Town. With the responsibility of maintaining positive public relations, a strong commitment to public service is essential for this front-facing position.
The Town Administrator is responsible for assisting the board of Selectmen in managing Town affairs in accordance with Municipal Ordinances and the laws of the State of Maine and of the United States. The Administrator is charged with the responsibility of advising the Board and general public on the current status of all affairs of the Town and is responsible for preparing an annual report of the previous year’s activities. Essential duties include attending meetings of the Board of Selectmen, preparing and providing supporting documents and information pertinent to agenda items, and documenting minutes of the meetings.

Yes, you need to go to the Town Office and make out an “Intent to Build” form or you can access it by clicking here. Print it, complete it and mail it to Planning Board, P.O. Box 116, Liberty, ME 04949, or drop it off at the office. Also, you will need to apply to the Planning Board for a permit if you are in the Shoreland Zone. The application for a Shoreland Permit can be accessed by clicking here as well as at Town Office.
Fire permits are free. Go to www.wardensreport.com to complete the application and submit it to our Fire Chief.

You can apply for General Assistance by coming into the Town Office and filling out an application with the General Assistance Administrator during regular Town Office hours, or by contacting our Selectboard directly at (207) 589-4587 or (207) 542-9180 outside of regular Town Office hours, or in an emergency. These interviews are conducted in strict confidence in a private setting.

In October and May. You have the opportunity to make two installment payments. You will receive ONE bill in late September. The first installment is due in October and the second installment is due in May. Even if you choose to pay in two installments, there will not be a reminder sent out in May so you should retain the second pay stub on the bottom of the bill as your reminder, and mark your calendar. If you have missed any payment due dates, please call the office at 207-589-4318 for the amount due at this time. Interest begins accruing on the unpaid 1st installment the day after it is due.
We do accept partial tax payments and prepayments of any amount on all bills. Payments are always applied to the oldest outstanding tax bill first. We do accept credit and debit cards. Note: There is a 2.5% fee charged by the bank on any debit or credit card payments. Click here to pay on-line.

Marriage licenses may be obtained from the town in which one member of the couple resides. If you are both from out-of-state and wish to be married in Maine, then you may get a license from any municipality. Both members of the couple must be present to sign the form in front of the clerk, or you may sign it before a notary public. Be prepared to show ID. If you have been previously married, you must show the original stamped divorce decree from your most recent marriage. Please allow time for the clerk to prepare the marriage license as we are unable to do it during open office hours.
