At the December 27 Selectboard Meeting, the Selectboard decided that our 2nd Selectman Andre Blanchard will take over the Liberty board seat of the Southwestern Waldo County Broadband Coalition (SWCBC), up until now occupied by Liberty Resident Joe Meadows. Joe will continue to participate in the Coalition, just not as a board member, and we are very grateful to Joe for all the time and good work that he has given the Coalition thus far on our behalf.
We also decided to form a Liberty Broadband Committee to help decide what is best for our town, as the Coalition enters into a contract with the company Axiom, to conduct our feasibility study for the five towns (Freedom, Liberty, Montville, Palermo, Searsmont) currently members of the SWCBC. We would like to invite all the current Liberty members of the SWCBC to join this Broadband Committee as well as any Liberty Residents who have an interest in developing better and more reliable broadband internet services in Liberty. We decided to create this new committee in Liberty in the event that the five-town coalition diverges on the solution to our broadband woes. The new committee will only start meeting (if at all) after the SWCBC receives the feasibility study from Axiom and has made the decision to take our individual towns in different directions. We would meet twice a month just as the SWCBC does now and could conduct the meetings via Zoom, if needed, or in person. Please contact Andre Blanchard at (207) 233-3952 if interested.
